IMPACT OF MSP ON AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTIVITY, EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES AND ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINAILBILITY IN NORTHERN STATES OF INDIA: A PANEL DATA ANALYSIS
Author: Palvinder kaur Bakshi

This study investigates the impacts of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) on agricultural productivity, employment opportunities, and environmental sustainability in India’s northern states for the duration of 2000-2020. Amid ongoing debates regarding MSP's effectiveness, this research provides empirical insights into MSP's role in shaping key agricultural metrics. Employing a panel data analysis methodology, the research scrutinizes historical MSP data for major crops and examines associated metrics, including crop yields, agricultural employment rates, and environmental indicators such as water usage and soil health. The results indicate that higher MSP levels correlate positively with increased agricultural productivity and employment rates, suggesting that MSP is an effective mechanism for enhancing farm income and job security in rural areas. However, the relationship between MSP and environmental sustainability is complex; the data suggests that elevated MSP may lead to increased water use and soil degradation due to more intensive farming practices. These findings highlight the necessity of integrating sustainable agricultural practices within the MSP framework to balance economic advantages with environmental preservation. This study enriches the policy discourse by offering a nuanced understanding of MSP's diverse impacts, thus informing future agricultural policy development in India.

AN EMPIRICAL ANALYSIS OF THE IMPACT OF RENEWABLE RESOURCE USE ON PUBLIC HEALTH IN INDIA
Author: Shivani Sinha, Mrutyunjaya Mishra

This study investigates the relationship between renewable energy consumption, fossil fuel use, and public health outcomes in India, using annual data from 1990 to 2019. Employing Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression models, the study explores the effects of renewable energy, CO2 emissions, fossil fuel consumption, and other socio-economic variables such as Human Development Index (HDI) and urbanization on life expectancy, mortality rates, and death rates. The findings reveal that renewable energy consumption positively impacts life expectancy and reduces mortality, while fossil fuel use is associated with increased mortality and adverse health effects. Urbanization plays a crucial role in enhancing life expectancy and reducing mortality due to improved healthcare infrastructure and services. However, the reliance on fossil fuels remains a significant challenge for public health. These results highlight the importance of transitioning to renewable energy sources and implementing environmental regulations to improve public health outcomes in developing economies like India.

SOCIAL SECURITY FOR GIG WORKERS IN INDIA: CHALLENGES, GAPS, AND POLICY RECOMMENDATIONS
Author: Sulakshna Dwivedi, Dharmpal Deepak

The gig economy is rapidly expanding globally, including in India, where gig workers represent a growing share of the workforce. However, existing labor laws and social security frameworks are primarily designed for full-time employees, leaving gig workers excluded from essential benefits such as health insurance, pensions, paid leave, and unemployment protection. This exclusion increases their financial vulnerability and exposes them to heightened health and safety risks.
This paper critically examines the gaps in India's social security system for gig workers, analyzing the challenges they face in accessing benefits and proposing policy solutions to address these shortcomings. Through a comprehensive review of global and local literature, the study identifies key issues, including the exclusion of gig workers from traditional social protection systems, the inadequacy of existing policy frameworks, and the prevalence of financial and psychosocial vulnerabilities. The analysis highlights global best practices, such as portable and contributory benefit models, and evaluates their applicability to the Indian context.
The study emphasizes the need for legal reforms that recognize the hybrid nature of gig work, public-private partnerships to fund social security schemes, and robust enforcement mechanisms to ensure accessibility and equity. It also underscores the importance of worker awareness, intersectional analysis, and sector-specific solutions to address the diverse needs of gig workers. By proposing a roadmap for comprehensive reforms, this paper aims to contribute to the development of a sustainable social security system that ensures the welfare of gig workers while preserving the flexibility inherent in gig work.

A REVIEW OF SOYBEAN MARKET DYNAMICS: ARRIVAL PATTERNS AND PRICE FLUCTUATIONS IN AGRICULTURAL PRODUCE MARKET COMMITTEES OF AMRAVATI DISTRICT, MAHARASHTRA
Author: Priyanka Sudhakar Pardhi, Maan Singh Toor

This review explores the dynamics of soybean arrivals and prices across Agricultural Produce Market Committees (APMCs) in the Amravati district of Maharashtra. The paper synthesizes research on seasonal patterns, market instabilities, and external factors influencing soybean markets from 2009 to 2023. Soybean cultivation plays a significant role in Maharashtra's agricultural economy, with Amravati district contributing approximately 41.7 percent of the state's total production. This review highlights the importance of understanding cyclical variations in arrivals and prices to improve market efficiency and support farmers' income stability. Research indicates pronounced seasonal variations in soybean arrivals, with peak periods following harvest and minimal arrivals during lean seasons. Prices typically demonstrate an inverse relationship with arrivals, affected by supply-demand dynamics and external factors including climate conditions, government policies, and global market trends. The paper concludes by proposing strategies to mitigate market volatility and enhance the resilience of agricultural markets in the region.

RURAL WOMEN: EMPOWERMENT FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Author: Prasad .S.P

Women play a vital role in the sustainable development of a nation. Because we know that basic unit of a nation is family. The women are the backbone of the society but worldwide her hard work has mostly been unpaid. Achieving sustainable development means not only reconciling economic and environmental sustainability, but also prioritizing social sustainability. Poverty and exclusion increase the amount and intensity of unpaid care work, as a result of limited access to public services, inadequate infrastructure, the lack of resources to pay for care services and time-saving technology. Unpaid care work is also intensified in contexts of economic crisis, health crises, environmental degradation, natural disasters and inadequate infrastructure and services. A just and sustainable society is one that recognizes unpaid care work by making it visible through statistics and by ensuring that policies are in place to reduce its drudgery, through appropriate public investments in infrastructure and social services, and to redistribute it between women and men within households, and between households and society more broadly. Vocational trainings are being conducted, to impart skills to undertake different vocations. In extension activities the women are now the center point and activities are being planned keeping her in view. Her enlightenment will change the face of rural India. Providing more training opportunities to women will give them ownership of assets like land, access to credit and other inputs, adoption of women-friendly technologies, involving them in planning and decision making at all labels can foster sustainable development of the society.
